United Palace: the former Loew's wonder room
The 1930s United Palace sits at 4140 Broadway at the corner of 175th Street in Washington Heights. Its landmarked exterior and ornate interior are the main event, but the operating brief is broader than a repertory cinema: the venue lists concerts and movies, and its public hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM daily. Go for the architecture first, then check the specific screening or tour before you cross town.
Kings Theatre: restored scale, live-first calendar
Kings Theatre opened in 1929, was designed by Rapp and Rapp, and reopened after restoration in 2015 at 1027 Flatbush Avenue. The 3,250-seat room is now programmed for concerts, comedy, film screenings, and special events. Its Tuesday–Saturday public hours are 12:00–5:30 PM, with Monday and Sunday closed. This is the big-night choice, not a promise of daily repertory film.
Paris Theatre: the film is still the reason
At 4 West 58th Street, the Paris Theatre is the cleanest answer to the question 'where can I still see a movie in a grand old room?' It is an operating cinema with a dedicated official site, rather than a performance venue that occasionally screens. Save this one for the film itself, then confirm the current program before planning the night.
