Description

The ridge takes its name from the midday sun passing over it, rising 370 feet to views south across Walpole and Norfolk to Gillette Stadium. Across the reservation, four and a half miles of moderate trails wind through stands of pine, beech, birch, and hemlock, serving as a link in the Bay Circuit Trail and connecting to the Charles River. Slopes descend toward pastures reclaimed by woods after Sawmill Brook was dammed in 1764, with wildflowers scattered in spring and a peaceful atmosphere come fall foliage season.
