Nellie Keyes Park Community Garden
4.6 (37)park
Around $100.00
A cooperative organic garden where neighbors tend fruit trees, seasonal crops, and shared harvests year-round.
Description

Founded in 1998 in association with Urban Harvest in Houston's Rice Military neighborhood, the garden runs on a shared-labor model where members plan, work, and harvest together. Volunteers fund supplies like seeds and fertilizer while the city provides the park space and water. The growing cycle shifts from cool-season greens and root vegetables between October and May to heat-tolerant crops like eggplant and okra in summer, with herbs on hand year-round and a community orchard just outside the fence.
