Description

Established by a 1937 act of Congress, the institution balances the neoclassical West Building with the modern East Building designed by I.M. Pei. An underground moving walkway featuring Leo Villareal's light sculpture, Multiverse, connects the two structures. The collection reaches from the Middle Ages through Impressionists and modern masters, extending outdoors to a dedicated sculpture garden.
