Description

The 28-foot-tall sandstone pillars stood on the U.S. Capitol's East Portico until an architectural expansion prompted their removal in 1958. Reinstalled in the arboretum, the neoclassical structures are framed by a reflecting pool, grove trees, and seasonal flora, creating an open-air juxtaposition of historic stonework against a pastoral landscape.
