Description

Designed by American sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt in 1916 and installed in 1925, the memorial features Hawthorne seated on a rock that appears to be covered with seaweed, holding a hat and walking stick. The model was cast in bronze by the Gorham Manufacturing Company after Pratt's death and placed on a granite base designed by Smith & Walker. The City later cleaned the granite base and repaired and re-patinated the bronze using Community Preservation Act funds.
