4.1 (10)museum
Vintage uniforms, wartime diaries, and a Florence Nightingale dress replica bring the history of caregiving into view.
Description

Located in St. Benilde Tower at La Salle University, the collection chronicles nursing care and education through items donated by nurses across the country and abroad. Display cases feature historical lamps and former patient care equipment alongside an enlarged framed letter from Florence Nightingale to Alice Fisher, foundress of the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. Started as a 1974 tribute day at the Mütter Museum before becoming a 1976 Bicentennial project, the museum opens its archive of rare books and historical records through guided tours and scheduled research visits.
