Description

The hillside stairs belong to the naturalistic park design developed by Portland Parks Superintendent Emanuel Tillman Mische, who worked with the Olmsted Brothers. Across 176 acres in Southeast Portland, long flights of steps, curving parkways, and walking trails were laid out together to connect open lawns with wooded terrain and elevated views. The steep climb also functions as a popular workout spot, drawing runners and walkers up the slope.
