Mt. Kaʻala Trailhead (Tallest Peak on Oʻahu)
4.5 (155)attraction
A rugged climb to Oʻahu’s highest peak leads past boulder scrambles to a protected boardwalk through a rare summit bog.
Description

Beginning at the end of Waiʻanae Valley Road, the route passes service roads and the Waiʻanae Kai Shelter before entering the lower forest climb. Over 7.1 miles, the trail gains nearly 3,400 feet toward the 4,025-foot summit, taking on a stream crossing and boulder scrambles with a ladder amid strenuous, muddy conditions. As elevation climbs, non-native woods give way to a pristine native habitat featuring rare plants and endangered species.
