A rugged climb up Oʻahu’s highest peak leads through shifting ecosystems to a fragile, boardwalk-laced summit bog.
Description

Beginning at the end of Waiʻanae Valley Road, this 7.1-mile round trip climbs roughly 3,400 feet into the Waiʻanae Range. The ascent moves along a service road and through lower forest before reaching ridge sections equipped with a boulder-climbing ladder. Behind an ungulate-exclusion fence at the top, a protective boardwalk traverses a pristine summit bog sheltering rare native flora such as Kāmakahala, Pūkiawe, Kōlea, and Kanawao.
