Mount Wakakusa

Rising 342 meters along the eastern edge of Nara Park, the mountain features walking routes that lead up toward the 5th-century Uguisuzuka Kofun burial mound. Beyond its sunset lookouts and regular hiking trails, the hillside is renowned as the staging ground for the annual Wakakusa Yamayaki, a traditional festival during which the grass slopes are ritually set ablaze.
