Description

Once the site of Wake County's largest plantation, this park preserves the Lane and Mordecai family homes alongside spaces inhabited by enslaved and freed African Americans. Today the grounds feature Raleigh's oldest house in its original location, the birthplace of President Andrew Johnson, and a recreated 19th-century kitchen garden. Visitors explore the compact estate through detailed guided tours and permanent and rotating exhibits, complemented by historic structures relocated here for preservation.
