🎨 Inside the East Building

The National Gallery of Art, East Building brings modern and contemporary masterworks into the geometric landmark by I.M. Pei. Its airy, light filled spaces give you another reason to look up between works. Quiet, spacious galleries make architecture part of the experience, with room to slow down before moving to the next display.

The collection spans sculptures, metalwork and paintings, with temporary exhibitions adding another strand to explore. Docent led tours provide a guided way through the galleries. You can focus on an exhibition or spend time across different forms of art, without treating every room as another stop to rush through.

An underground tunnel links the building to the classical West Building, bringing contrasting architecture into a single outing. Admission to the galleries is completely free. At 4th St and Constitution Ave NW, the East Building stays open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, leaving a daytime window for the collection and its setting.
