Mill Ends Park
4.5 (1,086)park
The world's smallest park is a two-foot circle in a downtown median strip, just big enough for a single tree.
Description

What started in 1946 as an unused hole for a light pole on downtown Portland's SW Naito Parkway took root when Oregon Journal columnist Dick Fagan planted flowers in the pavement gap. Fagan championed the 452-square-inch plot in his column, spinning running tales of it being home to a leprechaun colony before the Guinness Book of Records formalized its standing in 1971. In the decades since, the diminutive site has drawn regular visits from local figures along with St. Patrick's Day festivities and miniature installations.
