🍸 Beyond Mezcal

Bar Sótano takes your River North evening down an alley behind Frontera Grill at 443 N Clark St. Created by Rick and Deann Bayless, the subterranean bar puts regional Mexican distillates at the center of an extensive drinks book. Give the drinks and the kitchen equal attention here.

Mezcal, sotol, raicilla and bacanora make up the spirits lineup. The plates move from tuna tlayudas and carrot tinga huaraches to oysters, quesadillas and grasshoppers. You can build the evening around a drink and a Mexican plate, with seafood and vegetable preparations among the choices.

The bar opens Wednesday and Thursday from 5 PM to 11 PM and Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to midnight, with Sunday through Tuesday closed. Reservations are available through OpenTable. For a sense of the cost before heading out, the per person price range runs from 30 to 50 dollars.
