McMenamins Hal's Café
4.3 (1,084)restaurant
A downtown bistro serving comfort food in a kitchen-centered room framed by musical stained glass and local tributes.
Description

Tucked between the Pearl District and Pride Plaza, the room opened in 2011 as Zeus Café before being renamed in 2023 for its longtime orchestrator Hal Finkelstein. Service runs from breakfast through dinner and happy hour, extending outdoors to heated seating where pets are welcome. Catch the dining room at the right hour, and sunlight filtering through the Harvey Milk Street transom windows casts the notes of the Grateful Dead’s “Dark Star” in light across the floor.
