Matthias Baldwin Park
park
Curving wedge terraces, meadow plantings, and monumental rocks turn this two-acre park into an environmental sculpture.
Description

Artist Athena Tacha shaped the landscape between 1981 and 1991, anchoring it around a large oval center of stepped terraces that rise from six inches to seven feet. Masses of perennials and shrubs form waves of color across the levels, leading toward nine clusters of vertical rock formations ringed by seasonal trees. In the northwest corner, a historical marker honors Matthias Baldwin and his locomotive works, which operated immediately to the east.
