Maryland Natives Shade Garden
4.5 (2)park
A certified bird-friendly campus garden of native ferns and wildflowers grown from seeds collected across Maryland.
Description

Tucked between Woods Hall and Francis Scott Key Hall along McKeldin Mall, the grounds gather species that grow within Maryland’s forests, featuring woodland sedges, grasses, and shrubs. Sourced from field explorations across the state, the collection highlights how indigenous flora can support Maryland’s local ecology without much effort. New plantings introduced in fall 2019 broadened that biodiversity, earning recognition from the Prince George's Audubon Society alongside the neighboring Woods Hall Rain Garden.
