Description

Spread across four acres on the National Mall, the memorial draws directly from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, setting his likeness forward from two massive pieces known as the Mountain of Despair. Flanking the monument is a 450-foot-long Inscription Wall bearing fourteen quotations celebrating justice, democracy, hope, and love. Visitors often cite the site's emotional impact, along with its nighttime views along the Tidal Basin.
