Mariano (Louis) Park
4.6 (114)park
A buzzing Gold Coast pocket park anchored by a Prairie-style pavilion and a central fountain ideal for people-watching.
Description

Sitting at the corner of Rush and Division streets, this 0.18-acre triangle holds an extensive neighborhood timeline. Acquired by the city in 1848, the plot was known around 1900 as Green Bay Triangle after the historic trail nearby, became Rehm Arbor in 1931, and was renamed in 1970 for Chicago Daily News editor and reporter Louis Mariano. The park's historic structure was designed by Birch Burdette Long, a Frank Lloyd Wright protégé. Ringed by lush plantings and ample seating to take in the surrounding streetscape, it offers a grounded pocket of Near North Side history right at the sidewalk's edge.
