Marian R. Byrnes Natural Area
4.1 (72)park
Natural areas are open from dawn to dusk daily.
A paved trail traces 140 acres of restored prairie, marsh, and woods in one of Chicago’s largest wild spaces.
Description

Set in Jeffery Manor, the grounds were previously known as Park No. 562 and Van Vlissingen Prairie before undergoing extensive ecological restoration. The terrain expands into wet prairie and savanna habitats that shelter local fauna, offering chances to spot frogs, snakes, birds, and deer. Running the entire length of the reserve, the paved route gives direct access across the shifting landscape, serving as a dedicated corridor for open views and quiet observation.
