Description

Anderson purchased the South Martin Street property in 1924, a 19th-century, three-story residence bearing a Philadelphia Historical Commission plaque and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downstairs, the space retains her portable bar, piano, and furniture. Run by the Marian Anderson Historical Society—founded by Blanche Burton-Lyles—the museum also preserves rare photographs, books, films, and memorabilia chronicling the contralto's life and career.
