Mānana Island Seabird Sanctuary
5.0 (12)park
Known as Rabbit Island, this protected offshore tuff cone is a seabird refuge best admired from neighboring beaches.
Description

The island earned its colloquial rabbit nickname from a combination of its distinctive silhouette and an introduced rabbit population from the past. Today, the state sanctuary serves as a protected haven for thousands of migratory and resident seabirds, including nesting wedge-tailed shearwaters and white-tailed tropicbirds. Because public access is strictly restricted to safeguard the fragile colonies and coastal habitat, the experience remains purely offshore, with prominent sightlines across the water from spots like Makai Research Pier and Waimanalo Bay.
