Description

This geothermal complex occupies a hill shaped by the constant, slow-motion sculpture of rising minerals. As water dissolves calcium carbonate underground and deposits it as travertine on the surface, the landscape evolves into a network of cascading limestone terraces. You can observe iconic points like the towering Liberty Cap and the distinct tiers of Minerva Terrace from the network of boardwalks. Because the area remains an active hydrothermal system with temperatures capable of causing severe burns, all exploration is strictly confined to the designated trails and boardwalks.
