Longfellow Park
4.7 (34)park
A quiet Cambridge retreat centered on a Daniel Chester French monument carved with figures from the poet's verse.
Description

Set directly across Brattle Street from the poet’s historic home, the grounds offer shaded walking paths, memorial benches, and open lawns originally laid out by Charles Eliot. The monument features a bust of Longfellow fronting a bas-relief panel of six figures from his works, including Evangeline, Hiawatha, and the Village Blacksmith. Framing the sculpture are stone and walls designed by architect Henry Bacon, who would later collaborate with French on the Lincoln Memorial.
