Description

Originally built on Brattle Street in 1759 for John Vassall, this Georgian-style home links two major eras of American history. George Washington operated his Revolutionary War headquarters here from July 1775 to April 1776 during the Siege of Boston, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow later inhabited the house from 1837 until his death in 1882. Today, estate tours showcase extensive collections of 19th-century literature and art alongside preserved rooms and historic gardens.
