Lobos Valley Overlook
4.7 (22)attraction
A quiet Presidio viewpoint over restored coastal dunes and shrubland rolling toward the Pacific.
Description

The overlook shows what San Francisco looked like before its dunes were covered by a growing city. Below, a free-flowing creek provides the Presidio’s fresh water, winding through terrain that park staff and volunteers spent over a quarter century rebuilding with native sand and plants. Today, the restored valley resembles what photographer Ansel Adams saw growing up nearby, offering an unpaved view of coastal habitat running toward the water.
