Liz Christy Community Garden

Founded in 1973 by the Green Guerillas, this neighborhood pocket on the edge of Nolita and the Lower East Side is unexpectedly deep. The narrow lot contains grape arbors, birch trees, and herb plots, alongside a mini gazebo and a small educational area. A 2.5-foot-deep pond is home to goldfish. Because the space is maintained by volunteers, the gates are open only during limited weekly hours, keeping this hidden patch of green a surprise for passersby who manage to catch it open.
