BEND: Live Trumpet and Modern Dance Share a Stage for One Hour
Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire and choreographer Aszure Barton share one stage for three nights at Lincoln Center.
🎺 Three Nights Only
⚡ What the Piece Does
Ambrose Akinmusire composes and plays trumpet, Aszure Barton choreographs, and both are on the Rose Theater stage at once. The choreography is set for the run; the score is played live at each performance. Akinmusire's composition shapes Barton's choreography across an hour that swings from close and personal to vastly distant. The work was commissioned by Kampnagel and had its world premiere at the Kampnagel International Summer Festival in Hamburg in August 2023. Three nights, Wednesday October 28 through Friday October 30.
🎺 Trumpeter and Dancers on One Stage
Rose Theater sits inside Frederick P. Rose Hall on the fifth floor of the Deutsche Bank Center at 10 Columbus Circle, at 60th Street and Broadway, a few minutes from the 59 St–Columbus Circle station on the A, B, C, D, and 1. The staging is built for music and dance to coexist: Akinmusire shares the stage with the dancers, and Bonnie Beecher's lighting and Tobin Del Cuore's video hold the two in the same frame. The production uses atmospheric haze throughout, which the venue flags for audiences in advance. Accessible routes and restrooms are on site, and assistive listening runs on FM receivers with headsets and neck loops.
