Little Falls Overlook
4.8 (6)attraction
A scenic viewpoint where Little Falls Branch flows beneath the historic C&O Canal into the Potomac rapids.
Description

The rapids here mark the upstream end of the tidal Potomac. Little Falls Branch drains land across Maryland and Washington, D.C., crossing beneath the canal corridor through one of roughly 180 culverts built along the 184.5-mile route. During the nineteenth century, a local dam diverted water from the stream into reservoirs that supplied the District of Columbia with water, remaining in place until the Washington Aqueduct was built and the dams were removed.
