Lincoln Park
4.6 (1,423)park
Capitol Hill’s largest park pairs 1791 origins with monuments honoring Abraham Lincoln and Mary McLeod Bethune.
Description

Set directly east of the U.S. Capitol at East Capitol and 11th Streets, the grounds were reserved for public use in Pierre L’Enfant’s layout of the city. In 1867, Congress designated the area Lincoln Square, marking it as the first site to bear the martyred president’s name. The park features the Emancipation Memorial alongside a monument honoring educator and civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune.
