This tranquil 24-acre sanctuary blends Edo-style Japanese gardens with sweeping views of Hilo Bay and lush banyan trees.
Description

Spanning 24 acres along the shores of Hilo Bay, this public park built between 1917 and 1919 operates as the largest authentic Edo-style Japanese garden outside Japan. Visitors follow winding paths lined with stone lanterns, pagodas, torii gates, and red bridges crossing tranquil ponds. Towering banyan trees and ocean views frame the grounds, which also feature a Japanese teahouse and Waihonu fish pond.
