Description
Known as the 'Grand Canyon of the East,' this 14,427-acre park hugs the Genesee River in Western New York, where cliffs rise up to 600 feet and the river drops over three major waterfalls — Upper, Middle, and Lower. Its 66 miles of trails thread through the gorge, past a historic train trestle and the restored Glen Iris Inn. The park also includes the William Pryor Letchworth Museum, the Humphrey Nature Center, and the Autism Nature Trail, a fully accessible one-mile sensory loop. Beyond hiking, there's camping, hot air ballooning, and whitewater rafting — enough variety that it won the 2015 USA TODAY Readers' Choice Award for Best State Park.
