Lest We Forget Museum of Slavery
4.8 (108)museum
A Philadelphia museum pairing authentic slavery artifacts—from iron shackles to bills of sale—with African art.
Description

The collection documents the realities of American slavery through physical evidence, displaying chains, coffles, and punishing ironware alongside records of enslaved people bought and sold as chattel. Exhibits extend into later eras with preserved Jim Crow memorabilia that caricature and ridicule African Americans. Across the galleries, descriptive text panels and presentations accompany walls lined with African sculptures, oil paintings, and vintage photographs.
