Description

Experimental composer Lea Bertucci presents a composition for sampled and live archaic flutes unfolding within an eight-channel spatial audio environment. Written for master flutist and early music scholar Norbert Rodenkirchen, the work draws on rare instruments spanning the Renaissance, Medieval, and Neolithic eras, including swan bone and sheep bone flutes. Bertucci deploys pre-recorded samples across an eight-speaker array to create a spatialized field of resonant drones and psychoacoustic textures, while Rodenkirchen performs live fragments of ancient songs and improvisations connected to the instruments' origins. Sustained tones and an isopolyphonic interplay define the form, inviting listeners into a new mode of listening presented in partnership with The Renaissance Society.
