Lazarus (Emma) Park
4.8 (25)park
A pocket playlot in Rogers Park honoring Emma Lazarus, the poet whose words grace the Statue of Liberty.
Description

Purchased by the Chicago Park District in 1976 to transform a vacant lot, the space functions today as a neighborhood playground with no structured programming. The playlot was officially named in 1986 at the request of the Rogers Park Chapter of Emma Lazarus Jewish Women's Clubs, timed to coincide with the centennial of the Statue of Liberty. The designation honors a 19th-century philanthropist whose civic voice deepened during the mass migration of Eastern European Jews in the early 1880s.
