🧘 A Sanctuary for Reflection

A lake, sunken gardens and silent spots for meditation set the pace at Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades. The ten acre sanctuary at 17080 Sunset Blvd puts reflection at the center of the outing, with a windmill chapel among its landscaped grounds.

Paramahansa Yogananda founded the sanctuary in 1950 as an open haven for peace, meditation and interfaith harmony. A memorial holds the ashes of Gandhi, adding a distinct piece of history to the garden setting. Regular Sunday morning services are also held here, alongside the space for individual reflection. Volunteers maintain the grounds, and modest attire is advised.

Garden arrival windows run Wednesday through Saturday from 10 AM to half past eleven AM and 1 PM to 3 PM, with Sunday arrivals from 1 PM to 3 PM only. Pick the garden window that fits your day and leave space to slow down beside the water.
