Laie Social Hall
attraction
A commemorative site marking the lively 1913 hall that hosted town luaus, dances, movies, and Sunday services.
Description

Built because the old chapel (I Hemolele) could not accommodate social activities, the hall functioned as an adaptable community anchor. Its layout paired a back kitchen with a stage that had Sunday School and Primary classrooms held underneath. When fire destroyed the chapel in 1940, the building took on regular ward services, weddings, and funerals for nearly a decade.
Later years saw the hall pivot into a youth center, seventh-grade classrooms, and an automotive shop for the Church College of Hawaii. Though the building was razed in 1958, a marker placed nearby in 2006 commemorates its history.
