Lafayette-Pointer Park and Recreation Center
4.7 (204)park
Honoring early landowner Captain George Pointer, this community park pairs modern athletic fields with a splash park.
Description

The center added Pointer to its name when it reopened in 2021, anchoring the park to the history of the ground beneath it. Born into slavery in 1773, Captain George Pointer purchased his freedom at age 19. His family was among the early African-American landowners who communed here from the 1830s until their homes were taken by eminent domain in 1928 to build Lafayette Elementary School and the original park. Today, the renovated grounds pair that local legacy with indoor multi-purpose spaces and clean, modern neighborhood amenities.
