Lady Bird Lake to the Capitol: Austin's Murals by Bike

A guided bicycle loop from a west downtown shop past Lady Bird Lake, downtown murals and the Texas State Capitol.

This is a guided bicycle loop of about two and a half hours that starts at a bike shop on Walsh Street, at the west end of downtown Austin, and ends back at the same door. The listing runs it from Lady Bird Lake into downtown for murals, sculptures and architecture, then up to the Texas State Capitol. The bikes are regular pedal bikes, and the operator puts the distance at 7 to 9 miles.

Several riders who name this tour in their reviews mention the same extra: local Austin music from the guide's portable speaker between stops.

The booking covers the guide, the bike, a helmet and equipment protection for up to 600 dollars of accidental damage to the bike. The operator says it hands out one bottled water per rider. The guide's tip is not included.

Downtown Walls and the Art by the Lake

The listing gives about 20 minutes to the stretch near Lady Bird Lake, with art along the way, and about 40 minutes to downtown, for murals, sculptures and buildings. The operator's own highlight list for this tour reads "the Obey Giantess, the tallest mural (in Austin), the Texas State Capitol building, other various murals and the historical Austin architecture." The listing adds the historic homes and buildings of West Austin.

The University of Texas campus is no longer part of the route. Older rider accounts of the company's rides mention it, and in a 2023 reply to a rider the operator said its itinerary no longer includes the UT campus. The current listing does not mention it.

From the Lake Into Downtown, Then the Capitol

The listing runs the stops in this order: the shop, Lady Bird Lake, downtown, the Texas State Capitol and back to the shop, with about 10 minutes at the Capitol. One rider wrote in 2025 that the route was mostly on dedicated bike lanes.

Flat Streets, Moderate Fitness, Adult Tickets

The operator describes downtown Austin as "fairly flat for the most part" and says most of its tours are like "walks on a bicycle." The listing still asks for at least a moderate level of fitness and does not recommend the ride for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Part of the loop is on city streets, and riders describe the guide keeping the group together through downtown.

Every ticket on this listing is an adult ticket, for ages 18 to 99. The stroller and infant-seat boxes ticked on the same listing do not fit a ride sold that way. Wear closed-toe shoes: the operator does not allow flip-flops or open-toe sandals.

Rain, Small Departures, and the Tip

Light rain does not stop it. The operator's booking notes say the tour runs in light rain, and that if it has to cancel for unsafe conditions it will contact you; no word means the ride is on. On this listing, a departure called off for weather comes with the offer of another date or a refund.

One person can book, and the listing warns that a departure can be cancelled after confirmation if too few riders sign up, with an alternative or a full refund offered. The operator's FAQ sets the floor for its regular bike tours at two riders. The listing caps a shared departure at 15 riders, the same number the operator gives as its limit per guide. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; inside 24 hours there is none. The operator's own pages add an automatic 20 percent gratuity for larger groups, from six riders on its tours page and above six in its FAQ, without saying how that applies to a booking made here.

📍 Go to 503 Walsh Street, on the west side of downtown, 15 minutes before departure for bike and helmet fitting. The listing says late arrivals forfeit their tickets. Older listings of the company and older rider accounts put the shop in East Austin, at 1710 East 2nd Street; the operator's own site and booking system give Walsh Street. Drivers should arrive at least 20 minutes before departure to find street parking on a nearby cross street, the operator says.

As of October 16, 2026, the listing's calendar offers only the 11:00 AM departure, on Fridays through Sundays, with dates loaded through November 29. The loop finishes back on Walsh Street, with the lake, the murals and the Capitol behind you.
