4.5 (12)shop
A Kalihi Valley community bike shop where youth learn to repair donated rides and earn bicycles of their own.
Description

Born in 2005 out of an active living design grant promoting physical activity in communities with high diabetes rates, the Kalihi Valley Instructional Bike Exchange pairs mechanical education with neighborhood service. The workshop runs on youth participation: each year, young volunteers log roughly 9,000 service hours to repair around 4,000 bikes and refurbish about 400 donated frames, learning maintenance skills while keeping the shop operational.
