Koko Head Ridge hike
5.0 (2)attraction
Climb 1,048 WWII railway ties up a volcanic cone for 360-degree views stretching from Hanauma Bay to Honolulu.
Description

Originally built to haul personnel and supplies to summit radar stations, the defunct railway tackles roughly 1,000 feet of elevation in just three-quarters of a mile. The route is a strenuous, sun-exposed climb up steep, uneven ties with zero shade from midday heat. Partway up, a short elevated trestle section suspends the path over open air, though an optional bypass trail provides a detour around the drop. Reaching the peak reveals sweeping vantage points across Hawaii Kai and Diamond Head.
