Completed in 1926, the building stems from an 1864 Dutch government institute created for research and education regarding tropical colonies, particularly Indonesia. Today, the venue hosts regularly changing temporary exhibitions alongside multiple ground-floor workshop spaces, plus a small theater with comfortable seating.
