Key West Saloon With a Tree Through Its Roof

Hear live music in a Greene Street saloon where a tree grows straight through the roof.

Look up for the tree.

🌳 Living Above the Bar

On Greene Street, the saloon keeps Key West history close at hand. Built as an ice house and morgue in 1851, it operated under its original name in the 1930s before taking its current name in 1958. Business cards, dollar bills and bras cover the walls, and live music fills the cozy interior.

Look up and a pirate tree rises through the roof, bringing a living canopy into the room. Outside, guests can try the quarter toss, aiming for a mounted fish fifteen feet above the ground with their backs turned. It is an odd ritual in a room once favored by Hemingway, and the music gives the evening another layer.

The story stays in view from the old name to the tree overhead. At the center, the pirate tree grows through the roof, giving the saloon a living canopy, while walls covered in bills keep your eyes moving between sets. Expect a room where the details do as much talking as the band.
