Kern Park
5.0 (1)park
An East Kensington community green space tended by local volunteers, featuring raised garden beds and room to gather.
Description

Set along Kern Street between East Huntingdon and East Sergeant Streets, the grounds feature practical neighborhood fixtures like trash bins and a community board.
The park takes its name from both its street and Senator John W. Kern, a progressive opponent of monopolistic corporate power. In 1913, following an appeal from labor activist Mary Harris "Mother Jones" during her imprisonment in a West Virginia coal strike, Kern introduced the Senate resolution that triggered a federal investigation into mine conditions.
