Description

Set within the Kaʻiwi State Scenic Shoreline, the trail links key coastal viewpoints, with open ocean outlooks that offer seasonal whale watching opportunities. While the route draws hikers and photographers to Hawaii's raw volcanic landscape, the shoreline tide pools—often called the Makapuʻu tide pools—are in a closed area considered very dangerous due to unpredictable wave surges.
