Description

Situated at North Eastlake Terrace, the site is one of Chicago's historic street-end beaches, acquired by the Chicago Park District in 1959 as part of an 18-beach transfer of municipal shores dating back to at least 1921. Its name comes from Norwegian grain and lumber trader Sivert Tobias Gunderson, who subdivided the surrounding land along Calvary Cemetery and chose Juneway because his development work started in June.
