Johnson House Historic Site
4.6 (113)museum
Germantown’s only surviving Underground Railroad stop, where an 18th-century Quaker family sheltered freedom seekers.
Description

Built in 1768 by Quaker abolitionists John and Gretjen Johnson, the site preserves where residents actively assisted freedom seekers escaping enslavement before and during the Civil War. Visits combine a walkthrough of the authentic historic structure with exhibits highlighting local abolitionist history, focusing on the documented actions of both the Johnson family and the people they sheltered.
