Johns Homestead Park
4.1 (51)park
Wooded trails wind past an 1829 homestead to Twin Brothers Lake and wetlands alive with herons and songbirds.
Description

One of DeKalb County’s oldest houses, the homestead and its outbuildings remain closed to the public while historical studies and restoration plans take shape. Instead, the 49.4-acre park is primarily undeveloped, tailored for unpaved walks and birding under a thick canopy. Paths include the wooded Marsh Trail, which flanks a north-to-south stream leading toward the cleared banks of Twin Brothers Lake. Across the surrounding wetlands and forest, the quiet habitat shelters beaver, owls, woodpeckers, and turtles.
