Jim's Original
4.6 (9,981)restaurant
A Chicago late-night fixture credited with creating the Maxwell Street Polish sausage, piled with sweet grilled onions.
Description

Founder Jimmy bought the original Maxwell and Halsted corner stand from his aunt, developing the recipe in 1943 with a smear of mustard and anchoring the Old Maxwell Street Market for decades. Even after university expansion forced relocations to its corner at Union Avenue and James Rochford Street, Jim's remains the longest continuously operating stand from Maxwell Street. The counter keeps the menu focused, pairing fast-moving sausages and onion-topped hot dogs with its signature pork chop sandwich with the bone on a bun.
